Almost every breakdown we attend was avoidable. The bearing had been humming for months. The battery had been cranking slowly since November. The brake pads were down to the backing plate. None of it appeared overnight, it just was not looked at.
A health check is an hour that tells you what your car actually needs, in what order, and what it will cost. No upsell, no invented faults, no scare tactics.
- Brakes: pad thickness, disc condition and lipping, fluid, visible pipes and hoses
- Tyres: tread depth across the width, pressures, age, uneven wear and damage
- Battery and charging: state of charge, cranking test, alternator output
- Suspension and steering: play in joints, worn bushes, leaking shocks, drop links
- Fluids: oil, coolant, brake fluid, power steering and screenwash, plus visible leaks
- Exhaust: corrosion, blowing joints and mountings
- Lights and wipers: every bulb, plus blade condition
- Diagnostic scan: stored and pending fault codes read from the ECU

No. An MOT is a legally defined test that can only be carried out at an approved test centre, and it is a pass or fail against a fixed standard. A health check is broader: it covers wear and condition, tells you what is coming, and gives you a report you can act on.
Yes, and it is one of the best uses of the service. We will meet you at the seller address. Do let the seller know beforehand. Most genuine sellers are perfectly happy with an inspection, and a seller who refuses one has told you something important for free.
Often, yes. Bulbs, wipers, a battery, brake pads and plenty of other jobs can be done during the same visit if you want them done and we have the parts. Anything bigger, we quote and book in.
Somewhere reasonably level and safe to work with a bit of space beside the car, the keys, and the locking wheel nut key if you have one. Service history and past MOT certificates add context, but we can look up the MOT record from the registration.
